As a dental assistant, you will be responsible for a variety of dental office and laboratory procedures and tasks, including: front office management, preliminary examination procedures, chairside dental assisting, patient care, charting, appointment scheduling, and record-keeping.

HCI’s program provides hands-on training for real-world, practical experience. All Dental Assisting students complete a 300-hour Externship in a minimum of two off-site dental offices. Through their externship placements, HCI students have the opportunity to work with patients and apply the principles of practice learned in the classroom. Students are prepared to competently complete clinical tasks, while also developing their interpersonal skills, including the communication skills required to work with patients as well as others in the workplace.

HCI students will prepare for and begin taking the TSBDE Texas Jurisprudence Assessment and the Dental Assisting National Board’s (DANB) Anatomy, Morphology and Physiology (AMP), Infection Control Exam (ICE), and Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exams during their Dental Assisting program.

Graduates of HCI’s Dental Assisting program receive a Diploma in Dental Assisting and CPR certification from the American Heart Association. Graduates are prepared for entry-level employment in dental clinics or practices as dental assistants, office managers, insurance billers, administrative assistants, and receptionists.
